PROPOSAL FOR VARIATION - SEPTEMBER 2021

Dear Stakeholder,

Proposal for variation to the admissions arrangements for September 2021

We are required to notify you that we are applying for an in-year variation to our Admissions Policy for entry to Year 7 in September 2021. This variation is related to families wishing to apply for a place under the “Faith Criterion” only and relates to verification of attendance at church.  An extract from the letter sent by the Chair of Governors to the Regional School Commissioner is below:

As Chair of the Board of Governors for Becket Keys CofE School, I write to confirm that by Chair's Action, the Governing Body resolve to propose that a variation be made to the Year 7 admissions arrangements at [Becket Keys CofE School] for September 2021, in respect of the over-subscription criteria relating to church attendance.

The variation requested is that " In the event that during the period specified for attendance at worship the church has been closed for public worship and has not provided alternative premises for that worship, the requirements of these admissions arrangements in relation to attendance will only apply to the period when the church or alternative premises have been available for public worship".

This request is made in order that parents seeking admission to the school can readily determine what the admissions oversubscription criteria are and how they may be met, and thereby enable the school to deal lawfully, fairly and transparently with admissions matters in the exceptional circumstances of the COVID19 pandemic.

The school’s admissions arrangements will be updated and published in due course, subject to the outcome of this application.

Yours faithfully

A.P. Scott-Evans
